How do I use .env variables in Laravel and keep them secure?

I have API keys and database credentials in my Laravel app. I'm storing them in the .env file but I'm not sure if this is the right approach. My concerns: - Is .env secure enough for production? - How do I access .env values in my code? - Should I commit .env to Git? - What happens if I need different values for local vs production?
